Eric Estes Financial Education Scholarship
At Boulder Dam Credit Union, we believe in investing in the future of our youth by supporting their education and financial literacy journey. The Eric Estes Financial Education Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship designed to assist students who have demonstrated a commitment to financial education and are pursuing higher education.
Scholarship Overview
This scholarship honors the legacy of former CEO Eric Estes by empowering students to achieve their educational and career aspirations while emphasizing the importance of financial literacy.
Who Can Apply?
- BDCU Membership: Applicants must be active members of Boulder Dam Credit Union in good standing.
- Educational Enrollment: Applicants must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational school.
- Financial Literacy Involvement: Demonstrated participation in BDCU’s Moola Moola or High School Understanding Your Money programs.
Application Requirements
- Essay: Write an essay (800 - 1000 words) detailing your educational goals, career aspirations, how the scholarship will support you, and your experiences with financial literacy at BDCU.
- Recommendation Letters: Submit two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, mentors, or community leaders.
- Submission Deadline: Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2025. Late applications will not be considered.
How to Apply
1. Prepare Your Documents:

- Two letters of recommendation.
2. Submit Your Application:
- Send an email with the subject line: {Last Name, First Name} Scholarship Application {Date} to scholarship@boulderdamcu.org.
- Include your BDCU membership number and a brief description of your financial literacy involvement.
- Attach your essay and recommendation letters.
Essay Guidelines
Topic: "Describe your educational goals, career aspirations, and how the Eric Estes Financial Education Scholarship will help you achieve them. Share challenges you’ve overcome and reflect on the unique value of credit unions and your experiences with Boulder Dam Credit Union."
Format:
- Length: 800 – 1000 words.
- Typed, double-spaced, using a standard font (e.g., Times New Roman, 12 pt).
- Include a header with your name and essay title.
Content:
- Clearly state your educational and career goals.
- Explain how the scholarship will assist in achieving these goals.
- Highlight financial or personal challenges you’ve overcome.
- Reflect on your community involvement, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles.
Applications are due by March 31, 2025 and will be reviewed by the scholarship committee shortly after. Scholarship recipients will be notified in early May.
